GSA sponsors Day of (No) Silence on April 12

Freshmen GSA members Maya Contreras and Esperanza Anaya post flyers encouraging students to sign up to participate in the Day of (No) Silence on April 12. This day is a way for students to commit to not remaining silent when they witness harassment and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in schools. At the end of the day on April 12, GSA will sponsor a pizza party in the IMC for students who want to participate. The cost of the pizza party is $1. Students and staff can also show support by purchasing T-Shirts $15. They will be on sale in the IMC from April 1 through April 11.

DECA students promote their club and its activities at the Aug. 23 Back-to-School Bash. Various clubs and sports hosted tables to encourage students to participate in the extracurricular offerings at Bremen. The Bash had a DJ, food trucks, inflatable games and more to promote school spirit.

On Monday May 7, students from FACS cooking classes were invited to a brief celebration in the IMC. They were honored with an industry recognized Servsafe Certificate for proper food handling. This certificate is part of being identified as College and Career Ready and will prepare students to have options and opportunities for their future.

Mrs. Martinez and the Dreamers Club make plans for their annual cinco de mayo celebration. The Dreamers Club plans everything from the budget, to decorations, to entertainment. Tickets for the May 3 celebration can be purchased in advance through 5Star or in the main office. Tickets also will be sold at the door the day of the event.

On April 4, 2024, Chicago History students visited the Shedd Aquarium. Opening in 1930, the Shedd is one of the oldest public aquariums in the United States. Students learned that the aquarium is an integral part of Chicago's cultural and architectural history. Chicago History students discovered that the aquarium houses a diverse collection of marine life, showcasing species from around the world. Ultimately, students realized that the Shedd Aquarium serves as both a historical landmark in Chicago and a dynamic educational institution, providing valuable insights into marine life, conservation, and the interconnectedness of ecosystems. If you are interested in learning more about Chicago, BHS students should consider taking the Chicago History course offered here at Bremen during their junior/senior year. On March 22, the senior class hosted the annual Staff vs. Student fundraiser event. Activities consisted of a ball drop relay, hungry hungry hippos game, and performances by Fuego. In the end, the staff emerged victorious!

Bremen's National Honor Society conducts its annual Buy-A-Brain auction after school March 19 in the main foyer. Students and staff placed bids on NHS students raising nearly $800. Brains accompanied the winning bidders and followed their daily class schedule on March 22.
