The Bremen Braves Varsity Baseball season had begun. This year, the team has 6 seniors and the coaches have high expectations especially with our veteran players. Junior, Aiden Gonzalez, has been the pick to click for the starting pitcher, however, he is currently injured.
The Bremen varsity baseball team started their season after a couple of games with a record of 1-3 on the season. The team has had 2 very close games that unfortunately slipped right out from under them. The two games were against Chicago Christin and Joliet Central. The score with the Chicago Christian was 8-6 and the final for Joliet Central was 9-4. Both were good games despite the loss. The athletes are well aware that these losses are not the initial outcome they were looking for, but they know they have plenty of power to change how things started.
“Although it is not the start we wanted, there are many positives in the games we have played in the make us know that we will continue to play stronger,” said Aiden Gonzalez
In prime baseball fashion, many of the games so far have been rescheduled due to cold weather and rain. However, rest assured, the Braves earned their first win this week! The score was 15-0 against; the Braves took the amazing win against Illinois Lutheran High School.
This year’s BHS Baseball athletes have been sponsored by Chic-Fil-A; this restaurant has helped the team raise money for the team. Recently, the Braves just got the pitchers mound and home plate redone; it is a nice revision to the field. Another advancement for the team is new jerseys! This year, the players are donning brand new black jerseys that are really nice.
Some may not know that a lot of players’ mothers help out during the season working to make it nice for the players. The moms make fun and exciting things for the players. The mothers make hats for family members of the players and it seems everyone, even the spectators, have their heads in the games.
Another unique fact about the team is that each player has their own walk up song. Walk-up songs seem to lift the vibe of the game.
The walk up songs are not the only thing that seems to get the players excited to play on the BHS diamond. This year’s team captains are Ashton Cardinal, Jonathan Olivera and Chris Zarate and they always help to keep the players determined and dedicated by leading by example. The coaches are positive influences to the athletes as well. The head coach, Mike Cline, along with the assistant coaches make sure that the student-athletes are prepped and ready for the best outcome.
“The coaches always get everyone hyped up; they really motivate everyone!” exclaims senior Johnathan Olivera.
It seems that everyone enjoys the home games at the Braves field. The home crowd is always great at Bremen Baseball games. There are many great games that are a “must see” coming up soon in the schedule.
“The rivals, The Oak Forest Bengals, are always a good team to see!” said Ashton Cardinal, Senior. Everyone and everyone should try to make it to at least one of the Bremen Braves Baseball games this year!
