Christmas loses some magic amid pandemic

Tree with lights

Last year around this same time of year, my friends and I went to see the Christmas lights downtown. It was a full day of joy.  The city streets were packed with people and gorgeous lights were all around the city.

In December of 2019 in the city of Chicago, there were not only gorgeous lights everywhere.  There was even fireworks and music and the big crowds seemed to enjoy all of it!  This year was so different.  This year it was very sad and lonely.

This year December in Chicago there was literally nobody at all there.  There were no Christmas lights everywhere except certain streets.  The Christmas tree stood there even looking lonely.   The ice rink usually packed with smiles was not even available.  There was no music and no fun.

This whole pandemic took a toll on a lot of people as many things have changed drastically.  Being social is out of the norm.  I know I am not alone when I say that I cannot wait for this pandemic to subside because I truly miss being able to be out without a mask having fun at Christmastime!
