Aleshla Ramirez, for the Echo

Being a carpenter involves hard work and dedication. It involves putting your skills to the test at every possible moment, and having the ability to do the work necessary to prevail. This is not the type of job you can goof off at because you will be putting others at risk by not building correctly. So by these standards this is not an easy job, in fact if  you are not good at math it can be very difficult. Math is a big part of this job as it sets your course and produces the proper measurements for the tasks you must complete. If your math is off the structures may fall through or not be fully accessible. It takes some time to get used to but if you put your mind to it you can do it and possibly make it easier on yourself. You must be a very driven person and willing to withstand anything that gets thrown your way. Putting your best foot forward is very important as it will get you very far in this career.Staying focused and working hard are big things to accomplish as you move forward in this career. Becoming a carpenter means you must understand the job market and earning potential, training and the duties that you must complete.

The job potential for carpentry seems pretty open as the need for construction rises in the country. As long as there is a need for things to be built and constructed you will have something to do. This means as people request different things to be built you will be requested to come in, along with other carpenters in your area. This allows you to have something to do often and as long as you do it well allows you to be called in more. However the job market may drop during colder months as less construction is needed. This is because it gets too cold for things to be built or humans to withstand long hours in these temperatures building on the needed projects. This depends deeply on the type of program you pursue as other programs may be needed year long. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics “About 89,000 openings for carpenters are projected each year, on average, over the decade”. This is because, according to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics “many people move to other occupations in construction or retire” as they have reached the point they can no longer work in this occupation.

“The earning potential, as of May 2019 the average pay annually for carpenters was $48,330.” According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics. This could support your family and yourself as you work. This salary is the average among carpenters as they work.  “The lowest 10 percent earned less than $30,170 annually”, which is still a livable salary and really nice for the jobs you may do. “The highest 10 percent earned $84,690 annually.” This means if you work hard and make your availability open you may be able to make the same or close to the same amount. This is a very high salary and will easily support you and your loved ones as you progress through the years. This is a good salary as compared to other occupations. Carpentry has many openings a year and pays well whether you’re in the top ten percent or the lowest ten percent. It is an easy base and salary to support you and your family. As long as you stay focused and work hard as much as possible you will make it far in this industry. As for the earning potential, this is not a bad career to pursue.
