Being able to understand and relate to other people is a valuable skill to have. Obtaining that skill will open up the opportunity for many social working jobs. Which includes helping children, teens, and many adults in many aspects. This profession not only positively impacts the people you’re helping, but will make a big difference in your life too. Wanting to help children in need, make a difference and have been through some of the same experiences as most of the children in foster care, are all good reasons to get into a career such as social work. There are many factors to think about when considering the profession of a social worker; the job market, earning potential, training, and the duties of the profession. One should consider all the important qualifications when trying to enter into a career of a social worker. Such as: The job market’s high demand, the low earning rate, and the duties of the profession.

The job market of the profession of a social worker is constantly evolving as the years pass. “Due to the rising need for social services for youth and their families, the employment demand for child, family, and school social workers is expected to grow faster than the average for all professions by a rate of 15 percent between 2012 and 2022.” (Social work degree guide website ,https://www.socialworkdegreeguide.com/faq/what-is-the-career-outlook-for-social-workers/ page 1 2020 edition.) There is always going to be a rising number of children entering the foster care system. With the numbers rising, there is always a search for social workers. They do so much undocumented help that goes unnoticed but to the kids they help, they have been remembered for the rest of that child’s life. “Many social workers who hold an MSW have no problem finding jobs locally or nationally.” (By Maura Deering Published on October 12, 2020 https://www.socialworkguide.org/salaries/ ) By having your masters, it could really benefit your career. Although, most people see it as going 2 extra years after they thought they were finished. Those two years are really going to strengthen a person’s resume. It shows you are qualified and eligible for the position desired.

When looking for a job, people intend to look at the salary before the outlook of the job first. When considering being a social worker, the earning salary is a good place to start. The earning potential of the job of a social worker is “from $31,750 for the lowest-paid 10% to $82,540 for the top 10% in the field.” (By Maura Deering Published on October 12, 2020, https://www.socialworkguide.org/salaries/)  The salary of a social worker isn’t really reliable. It mostly depends on what field and company you work for. In addition, most companies highly prefer someone with a masters degree. Like many other fields, someone with a master’s degree will earn more money than someone who has a bachelor’s degree. Social work pays morally, not so much financially. If you are looking into making a lot of money, social work would not be the best route to take. Social work is federally owned, therefore you will not make great money. “..there is a pay ceiling for a range of federal positions that leaves federal employees with lower salaries than they might have gotten in the private sector.” (Page 1, https://gogovernment.org/pros-and-cons-of-working-in-government/ ) Public owned businesses have less money coming in, which gives them less money to give. Whereas private owned companies have multiple people buying from them and giving them money. They can hire more people and have more money to give out.
