Career profile: Digital Creator

Diego Rodriguez, for the Echo

Many things can be accomplished as a digital creator, such as breathtaking artwork and entertaining videos. The best part is that it can be a career. There are many factors when considering the job of a digital creator; job market and earning potential, field training and the day-to-day duties of the profession. In order to become a digital creator, a person must understand three important areas of the career: the education and training, the salary and job outlook, and the duties and responsibilities involved in digital creation.

The job market for a digital creator is — thankfully — surprisingly forgiving. “The demand for content marketers has skyrocketed, with a 33 percent jump in the number of jobs in this field in the last year alone. And the rise is even sharper for those in search engine optimization, or SEO, which has seen a 43 percent jump.” (wework.com Sullivan April 2018 paragraph 1). There will never be a time when digital creators will not be needed in the job market. It is a relatively new job, so as  with any new career, it is in high demand. This will allow aspiring digital creators to have an opportunity to be a part of the career of their choosing. “The need for high-quality content is exploding,” said Brian Benton, a longtime WeWork member who runs his own content creation company. “Companies are changing the way they think about content, which changes the type of work we’re doing for them.” (wework.com Sullivan April 2018 paragraph 3). The world is in dire need for creators, so the job market for them has been absolutely phenomenal. Even huge companies — which are arguably the main factors who control the job market — need creators. The job market for this career is currently amazing, and there won’t be an influx of digital creators in the near future.

One must always be alert as to how much one’s desired career is paying. Should a given career pay enough in order to accommodate an individual’s lifestyle is up for said individual to decide. This can be easily applied to the job of a digital creator. “For many people, content creation is more than a pastime; it’s a viable career netting some of its biggest names millions of dollars every year. Do-it-yourself bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, Instagram influencers, and other creatives all have the opportunity to claim their share of a content marketing industry worth an estimated $44 billion.” (Intellinfluence.com SallyBot 2019 paragraph 1). If successful, digital creators can make a lot of money. This amount of money can even lead to even higher paying jobs, some that pay literal millions. The earning potential varies tremendously, so aspiring creators should highly consider pay when searching for jobs, and plan ahead in the situation of being their own boss. “Content creators who create content to promote products and brands are called influencers. Influencer content includes blog posts about travel in a particular location, sponsored by that location’s tourism group, or Instagram posts revealing a model using a particular makeup or skin care product. Influencers typically work closely with the brands they promote, often for an extended period of time. Influencers usually receive the services and products they promote for free. They may also receive financial compensation for the posts they make. While content creators aren’t always paid as influencers, average pay rates range from $75 to more than $5,000, depending on the medium and number of followers.” (Intellinfluence.com SallyBot 2019 paragraph 4.) This, combined with your own digital creating business, can generate millions. Seriously, digital and content creation cannot be a career to be slept on. This alone is why digital and content creation has become so mainstream. Still the vast world of this particular career is harsh, strange, and highly unpredictable. Keeping pay in mind in order to suit your life needs should be a priority, no doubt.
