As the winter sports season is approaching, Bremen High School has much to do to be prepared.  Many questions are floating around for students who aim to join a winter sport.

The upcoming Bremen Wrestling season is a sport that was majorly impacted last season due to the Covid 19 Virus.

On October 12, 2021 Chemistry teacher and BHS Wrestling Coach, Mr. Collins knows that his season will look different than what was once considered the norm. What will the season look like for Bremen’s wrestling team?

Collins explained, “Last year’s season was somewhat of a mess…not many people came out.”  The pandemic really impacted the season last year and on top of that no freshman joined the wrestling team.

Since sports are back open this season should be better but there still are changes and challenges with the new way of doing things since Covid.  “Masks do not have to be worn while wrestling, but while weight lifting and warming up, masks will be worn,” explained Collins.

The coach and the athletes know that safety measures are so important.  Even more diligently than in the past, the wrestling team will be making sure the mats are clean and making sure the students shower, etc.

This year of wrestling is now sanctioned by the IHSA so all wrestling is now open to all genders. For wrestling there are no tryouts- you just show up and wrestle. The day that the season will begin is scheduled for November 8th of 2021.

Change will always happen in life but anyone who joins the Bremen Wrestling Team will work towards a win-win situation.  There is one simple philosophy to live by as a wrestler at BHS that was coined by Dan Gabel-  “Once you’ve wrestled- everything else in life is easy.”
