Career Profile: Travel Nurse

Yasmin Quiroga , for the Echo

Imagine being able to save numerous lives, exploring different places all around the world, all while doing what you love. The profession of a travel nurse is extremely important because this type of career helps fill the gaps where the nursing industry is needed no matter where it is. I’ve always loved to care for people, meet new people and with them make new connections, and lastly who doesn’t love to travel and make good money at the same time; and for these reasons is why I would love to pursue a career in travel nursing. For these reasons is why I believe the profession of a travel nurse is right for me!

To begin with, I’ve always loved to care for people. The travel nursing industry has always been an interest of mine. My mom would always take me with when she would take care of my grandparents. I enjoyed helping, I would go on walks with them, listening to the echo of the birds while trying to figure out what each cloud was supposed to be, it was so peaceful. They were so peaceful. Giving them their medication was my favorite part of that whole experience. I would pretend I was a nurse handing them their prescriptions for the day followed with a glass of water. Every night I looked forward to the next morning to take care of them again. Because I’ve always been good at caring for people, is why I believe I would be a great travel nurse.

I’ve always valued meeting new people and making new connections. Since I was little I would always make new friends in school due to the fact that I would always put myself out there. Throughout my work experience, I would always converse with my customers trying to get to know them or to try to provide the best service for them. I enjoy meeting new people and being able to relate to them or to help them even if I don’t ever see them again. Just knowing that I made their day the slightest better is enough for me. Due to the fact that I value meeting new people and making new connections is why I believe travel nursing is the right fit for me.

Lastly, my favorite part of this career! Traveling and making a good amount of money. Who doesn’t like the sound of that? Throughout my 17 years of age, I’ve gone to: Wisconsin, Florida and California. Each one of those trips were one of the best experiences of my life. Being able to see new things and meet new people. It’s like you would take a break from your usual routine. Being able to wake up and breathe new fresh air is so peaceful. Especially when you’re able to support yourself. The profession of travel nursing will give me the opportunity to travel and make a good amount of money. These are key qualities in being an independent woman. That’s what I’ve always dreamed of being. Not having to worry financially but doing it in a way that makes me happy. Another thing about traveling is that I’ll be able to see different types of communities and types of houses where I would one day like to have my children grow up in. It’ll give me sort of an idea on what life I will be able to provide for my own family one day. Each country has different neighborhoods, customs, and lifestyles. Traveling while working will reflect on me, helping me decide what I want to do with my family, where I want to have my family, where we can go on vacation, etc. Travel nursing is the most beneficial career for me.

My mom would always take me with when she would take care of my grandparents. Since I was little I would always make new friends in school due to the fact that I would always put myself out there. Each one of those trips were one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve always loved to care for people, meet new people and with them make new connections, and lastly who doesn’t love to travel and make good money at the same time; and for these reasons I would love to pursue a career in travel nursing. As I said in the beginning; “imagine being able to save numerous lives.”  That’s exactly what I plan on doing, giving people hope and life!
