Estheticians build beauty, confidence

Rosa Salinas, for the Echo

Beauty and the Beast is like acne to skin. It can be a teenager or even an adults worst nightmare. Yet, there’s a solution to it. Thank goodness for estheticians, who help everyone be comfortable in their own skin. I will end up studying to be an Esthetician because it’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, it’s something that I see a lot in my family and because my parents always pushed me to be creative. Giving everyone the confidence needed, is something that I’m looking forward to. In this case, I think the career as an esthetician is the one for me.

Becoming an esthetician has been something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. It was all introduced to me at a very young age. Ever since I was 7, I watched beauty influencers. Beauty influencers have been around for a long time and their work just progresses over the years. I would watch beauty and hair transformations, these gave me an extraordinary sense of hope. One thing that really caught my attention was Beauty and Mystery. YouTuber, Bailey Sarian, brings the idea to life. She tells stories in her video and this helps engage the audience. I binge watch these videos till this day. Having gained inspiration from these YouTubers I started learning how to do my own makeup. When my sister would go out I would take her makeup. By the time she was back, all her makeup would be in its proper place. Soon after some time, I got my own makeup! This helped me explore many different stages in my beauty journey. So working in the  beauty industry really is something that I’ve really been looking forward to.

I have never second guessed myself. I knew this was the career for me when I saw the success it brought my family. My cousin, Daisy, started doing nails and makeup while she was still in high school. Till this day, she still has clientele and it has brought her so many good opportunities. It also allows her to have time with her family! Another person in my family who has been successful in this industry is my aunt, Angelica. She specializes in facials and everything having to do with skin. She also started at the very young age of 17. Becoming an esthetician isn’t her only job! She is also a nurse at a hospital and switching between jobs has never been a problem for her. This is very inspirational to me because it allows me to see that it’s possible. It makes me want to set goals towards the future. This goes to show the huge impact that my family has on me.

Creativity has been a huge part of my life too. My parents have always taught me to be creative. To find various solutions to a problem. For that I am grateful. When I was in elementary school, I was assigned a science project. The science fair to be exact. My mom made me choose the easiest project; which was the baking soda volcano. I didn’t mind it but even if the project was basic me and my mom took it to a different level of creativity. We brought the whole project to life. When I first started doing makeup, my parents supported me! They gave me tips and always motivated me to keep trying after several attempts. They pushed me out of my comfort zone so much. At the end of the day, I appreciate them more than ever and they’re the reason why I’m still pursuing this dream.

I have made it so far from where I’ve started. Every single step of the way mattered. Being able to see my family thrive just adds to the excitement! It’s like a blank canvas for every client and I look forward to helping those who are in need o the services that I will offer. I will study to be an esthetician because it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, it’s something I see in my family a lot and because my family has always pushed me to be creative. Therefore, I cannot wait to be able to express myself and my creativity in my work. I know my family will be proud of me and I’m happy that I’ll work for something that’s been a long term goal of mine.
